Terms of Service

Hare Finder · harefinder.com · Version 0.9.1 (interim) · Effective October 13, 2026

These Terms follow the one template shared by every Finder app from Northwoods Investment LLC, so the attorney reviews them once. Sections 1 to 12 are the shared text; Section 13 is specific to Hare Finder. They are interim documents for the free-account launch, written without an attorney, and will be replaced by the attorney's final text.

The short version. Reads cover and habitat only, not whether game is there today. Hare Finder checks maps against set criteria and shows where the cover suits snowshoe hare. A spot is not permission to hunt, enter or cross any land, and never means hunting is legal there. We never tell anyone to hunt, fish or go anywhere, and you're responsible for the laws, seasons and land rules wherever you go.

These Terms are an agreement between you and Northwoods Investment LLC, a New Hampshire company ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using Hare Finder ("the app"), you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the app.

1. What the app does, and doesn't do

Hare Finder reads public map data about forest age and cover in New Hampshire and ranks places near an address you enter, with the reasons for each. It reads the land only, not whether game or fish are there today. It does not detect animals, and nothing in the app is a promise of game, a catch or a harvest.

The maps come from public data that can be out of date or wrong. Land cover, boundaries, roads, parking and building locations may have changed. Treat every spot, route and distance as a starting point to check yourself.

2. Land, permission and the law

3. Your account

4. Plans, billing, renewal and refunds

The app is free to use today with a free account. Paid plans are not open yet. When they open, these rules apply:

5. Your content

Pins, tracks, waypoints and notes you create stay yours. They are stored on your phone unless you turn on backup. If you turn on backup or choose to share pins to help test the maps, you give us permission to store and use them only for those purposes, as described in the Privacy Policy.

6. Acceptable use

Don't misuse the app. That includes copying or reselling its maps or results, scraping it, trying to break its security, sharing your account, or using it to harass or trespass on anyone.

7. No warranties

The app is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including that the app is accurate, complete, error-free, always available, or fit for any particular purpose.

8. Limits on our liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Northwoods Investment LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any injury, loss, fine or penalty arising from where you go or what you do based on the app. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the app in the 12 months before the claim, or $50 if you paid nothing. Some states don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

9. Indemnity

If your use of the app, or your breaking these Terms or any law, leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of that claim, including legal fees.

10. Changes and ending

We may update these Terms. We'll show the new version in the app and ask you to accept it before your next search. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms. You may stop using the app at any time.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Hampshire. Any dispute will be heard in the state or federal courts located in New Hampshire, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.

13. Hare Finder section

Sections 13.4 to 13.6 (assumption of risk, release and indemnity) are interim wording marked for the attorney's review. Until that review they apply as written, to the extent the law allows.

13.1 Not a guide to where to go. Reads cover and habitat only, not whether game is there today. Hare Finder checks maps against set criteria and shows where the cover suits snowshoe hare. A spot is not permission to hunt, enter or cross any land, and never means hunting is legal there. Hare Finder is for anyone who wants a chance to see snowshoe hare, whether they hunt, track, watch or photograph them.

13.2 What it reads. Hare Finder reads forest age and cover only. It analyzes public forest-change, land-cover, vegetation, wetland, building, public-land and road data to estimate where snowshoe hare find suitable cover. It does not detect, count or track hares. Whether hares use a spot depends on things the app cannot see, including their numbers that year, snow, predators and hunting pressure. Land cover from 2021 misses newer cuts.

13.3 Protected look-alike species. New England cottontail is state-endangered in New Hampshire and closed to all hunting, and it cannot reliably be told from eastern cottontail in the field. Hare Finder shows no rabbits, and shows no spots or heat in the Wildlife Management Units where cottontail hunting is open, or, once mapped, inside New England cottontail areas plus a buffer. An empty area means only that; a spot outside it does not mean protected species are absent. You alone must identify any animal with certainty before you take it, and must not take any animal you cannot identify.

13.4 Assumption of risk. Hunting, tracking and travel in the woods, on snow and ice, near water and in winter weather carry real risks, including getting lost, cold injury, falls, firearm accidents, encounters with animals or people, and legal penalties. You choose your activities and where you go, and you knowingly and voluntarily assume all of those risks, whether or not the app shows a spot, route, parking lot or distance.

13.5 Release. To the fullest extent the law allows, you release Northwoods Investment LLC and its members, managers, contractors and agents from all claims, losses and liability arising from your use of the app or from your activities or presence on any land or water, including claims based on map data that is wrong or out of date.

13.6 Indemnity. To the fullest extent the law allows, you will defend, indemnify and hold harmless Northwoods Investment LLC and its members, managers, contractors and agents against any claim, demand, fine, penalty, loss or cost (including reasonable legal fees) brought by anyone, including a landowner or a government agency, that arises from your use of the app, your actions on any land or water, or your breaking any law or these Terms. This adds to Section 9.

13.7 Your acknowledgments. To create an account you tick three separate statements: that Hare Finder reads habitat and cover from maps, does not show where hares are, and that no spot means hunting is legal there or that you may enter or cross any land; that you are solely responsible for knowing and following every law, season, bag limit, protected-species rule, safety zone and land-access rule wherever you go, and for identifying any animal before you take it; and that you agree to these Terms, including Sections 13.4 to 13.6. We record the date, the versions of these Terms, the access disclaimer and the statements in force, and your account. If the wording of the statements changes, you are asked to tick them again.

13.8 Seasons and rules. Seasons, hours, bag limits and other rules change every year, so the app does not state them as facts. It links to the NH Hunting Digest and NH Fish and Game and shows when those links were last checked. Hunting hare with dogs has its own rules. RSA 207:3-a prohibits discharging a firearm within 300 feet of a permanently occupied dwelling without permission of the owner or occupant; confirm with NH Fish and Game. The app's building distances are estimates from public data and may miss structures.

13.9 Access disclaimer. Hare Finder maps terrain, not property rights or legal access. Parking and routes shown are limited to places listed as public in the sources named, which can be wrong or out of date. Public land can still close or restrict hunting, fishing or parking. Always respect private land: permission may be required to enter private land; get it where the law or the landowner requires it. Observe all federal, state and local laws, posted signs and regulations. You alone are responsible for confirming where you can legally go.

13.10 Public land, parking and routes. A spot is marked public only where an official list (NH GRANIT Conservation/Public Lands or USGS PAD-US) shows public land with public access, labeled "Public per [source], as of [date]." Routes run only over listed public land and public roads and trails (NHDOT, U.S. Forest Service), and parking is shown only where a lot is listed as public; otherwise the app says "No listed public parking found." If any part of a route can't be checked, no route is shown. Roads and trails may still be gated, closed, unmaintained or rough. Spots on private land are shown only on Pro, only after you turn them on and accept the access disclaimer, and never with parking, routes, directions or Guide me in. Each carries the banner "Private Land. Permission may be required. Respect land owners and local laws regarding accessing any property." We never show landowners' names or contact details.
